 Did you know?

Fraxel laser stands for ‘fractional thermolysis’- a term meaning only a fraction of the skin is treated, leading to faster recovery times and less down time.

Fraxel Laser®  is a new,  revolutionary, FDA approved laser treatment that helps you to remove years from your appearance. Fraxel is the pioneer of  ”fractional photothermolysis,” a technology in which thousands of microscopic laser columns – each just one-tenth the diameter of a hair follicle – treat a fraction of the skin at a time without affecting the surrounding tissue. These laser columns stimulate the production of younger, smoother, healthier skin to replace damaged tissue.  Indications for therapy include treating: sun damage, crow’s feet, acne scars, chicken pox scars, melasma, sun spots, stretch marks, lip lines, sun-damaged chest and hands. “Most Floridians over the age of 30 will benefit from Fraxel therapy,” says Dr. Gross. “It does a great job smoothing out lines and erasing sun damage for baby boomers”.  Dr. Gross is an expert in Fraxel Laser therapy in Orlando.  Our practice uses the Fraxel re:store 1500, which has broad indications for treatment for many skin types.

What is the Fraxel Treatment like?
First we assess your skin with the Visia Complexion Analysis. This is a digital imaging system that provides Dr. Gross with detailed information on the skin’s health and establishes a baseline for treatment.  The amount of sun damage and UV damage is seen as the Visia has the ability to see beneath the skin’s surface. With this information and a careful examination, we customize a Fraxel laser treatment plan specific for each individual. Energy Level, Treatment Level and Number of passes are scientific variables we contro for each patient.
The face is then cleansed and a topical numbing cream (BLT) is applied for 45 -60 minutes. A mild sedative and analgesic may be prescribed for a more comfortable experience. We then apply a glide gel and begin therapy. The handpiece of the laser is passed across the skin in precise patterns specific to the needs of the skin. There is a mild pin prick sensation with treatment which is very well tolerated. We use a stream of cold air from the Zimmer cooler to reduce any discomfort. This process is completed in ~ 30 minutes. We then apply a cool facemask to reduce any swelling. Post laser skin care is recommended which consists of Primera Pharmaceuticals aloe cort, a gentle cleanser, a facial moisturizer, and a sunblock. Most patients are able to return to school or work the following day or just need a day off to recover. A follow up visit is scheduled at Primera in 1 week to check healing.

Commonly Asked Questions

What does Fraxel Laser treat?

Regardless of the level of sun damage you have, or if you just want prevention and maintenance, there’s a Fraxel® treatment for you. The Fraxel family of treatments has multiple FDA clearances. These include:

    re:store ®

  • Sun Damage and Collagen Stimulation
  • Fine lines around the eyes
  • Pigmented areas (age spots, sun spots, and freckles)
  • Discoloration and uneven pigmentation
  • Melasma (mask of pregnancy)
  • Acne scars
  • Surgical scars

In short, Fraxel treatment creates smoother, fresher, healthier and younger-looking skin…improved tone, texture and pore size…and the softening of wrinkles and lines.

How does Fraxel re:store® treatment work?
Fraxel re:store laser is an Erbium- based laser which targets aging and sun-damaged skin with microscopic laser columns that penetrate into your skin to expedite your body’s remodeling of collagen. And since the laser treats only a fraction of tissue at a time, it leaves the surrounding tissue intact, which promotes very rapid healing. Fraxel re:store treatment resurfaces your skin by stimulating the growth of new, healthy skin cells from the inside out. It is not as strong as traditional CO2 lasers and has less downtime.

How much down time is there with Fraxel Laser?

Minimal. Patients only need to miss one day of work for this treatment, depending on skin response. Most often, there is a light pink color and minimal swelling for 24 hrs. after Fraxel Laser in Orlando.

How many treatments will I need?

Generally, a series of 4 treatments are recommended for best results.  These are spaced ~1 month apart to allow for healing.  Additional Fraxel re:store sessions may be needed for problem areas and can be discussed with Dr. Gross during your Consultation.

Is anesthesia required for Fraxel Laser?

No. Topical numbing cream is applied 45 minutes prior to treatment and a stream of cool air provides relief from any discomfort. An ice pack is applied after treatment and recommended the night of treatment to minimize swelling.
