What to Expect
Because JUVÉDERM® XC is a simple, nonsurgical wrinkle treatment, there is minimal recovery or downtime (and the results are instant!). So you can make an appointment to stop by our Orlando Lake Mary office for treatment on the way home from work or the gym, or even while the kids are at soccer practice—and get right back to your daily routine. Here’s what to expect when you visit Dr. Gross at our Primera office for treatment.
We recommend that you avoid any medications that can prolong bleeding, such as aspirin and Motrin (NSAIDs), for at least a week prior to receiving JUVÉDERM® for wrinkles in order to reduce the risk of bruising and bleeding at the injection site.
Anesthetics may not be needed prior to treatment since JUVÉDERM® XC is specially formulated with lidocaine (a type of anesthetic) to improve comfort during treatment. We may also elect to use a topical anesthetic to numb the treatment area before your injections. Dr. Gross will then ease the JUVÉDERM® XC under your skin (where wrinkles and folds occur) to replace lost skin volume. Following the injection, we may gently massage the treated areas. The procedure is quick and easy and the results are instant! The JUVÉDERM® injection itself usually takes only about 15 minutes.
Instant gratification is part of the appeal of Juvederm. More specifically, patients want to look good when they leave after treatment, and Juvederm can provide instant results. A study published inthe February 2007 Archives of Dermatology found that hyaluronic acid fillers may be more beneficial to the skin than previously thought. Researchers have discovered that Juvederm may actually stretch the collagen-producing cells in a way that encourages them to create more collagen. Stimulating these cells may produce longer lasting results with subsequent treatments. This is helpful for the smile lines around the mouth, lip lines, and parentheses that Juvederm treats for a younger look.
You may experience minor discomfort, tenderness, temporary redness, swelling, bruising, or firmness, at the injection sites. Studies have shown that these are usually mild to moderate in nature and clear up on their own in 7 days or less. You can apply an ice pack for a brief period which we supply for comfort.

What is JUVÉDERM® indicated for?
JUVÉDERM® Ultra and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus injectable gels are indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of skin) in order to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases running from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth, aka smiles lines).
What is the difference between JUVÉDERM® Ultra and JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus?
JUVÉDERM® is available in two formulations to allow us to tailor treatment to your unique needs. JUVÉDERM® Ultra provides versatility in contouring and volumizing lines around the lips and lower eyelid areas, according to Dr. Gross. JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus is a more robust formulation for volumizing and correcting deeper folds and wrinkles of the nasolabial area and cheeks.
