From Dr. Gross

Rhinoplasty is a nose-reshaping surgery that can correct deformities or make subtle aesthetic changes for cosmetic purposes. Dr. Gross explains the procedure and the various rhinoplasty techniques.

Nose surgery is one of the most popular surgical cosmetic procedures in the United States. If you’re self-conscious about your nose, you may be a good candidate. Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose for aesthetic and corrective purposes. Whether the issue is birth defect, injury, or age-related changes, rhinoplasty can help provide balance and proportion to your nose and face.

Dr. Gross is one of only 750 Board Certified Facial Plastic Surgeons (worldwide), that offers Rhinoplasty to the Orlando, Lake Mary and Central Florida areas. According to Dr. Gross,  the trend in modern Rhinoplasty is toward specialization (i.e.  Facial Plastic Surgery) and is moving away from over-reduction of the nose. “I prefer individualized treatment of each segment of the nose to give a balanced, refined look without compromising function, and the Computer Imager is an invalauble tool in the process”, says Dr. Gross.

We are one of a very few practices that use a  Computer Imager to show results. The computer analysis performed by Dr. Gross allows careful measurements of each patient’s nose and allows Dr. Gross to balance the profile and show possible surgical results. Computer Imaging is an excellent teaching aid for the patient and serves as the template or roadmap in surgery. “With this technology, I can reliably tailor a surgical treatment plan for each patient’s needs and desires for Rhinoplasty,” states Dr. Gross.  Your potential After results will be seen on our Computer Imager and Dr. Gross will use his expertise, training, and experience to help provide you a reasonable simulation of your new nose and your new look.

Rhinoplasty is the most common procedure for Dr. Gross and he is renowned nationally and locally for his results and expertise.  Many of Orlando’s most respected plastic surgeons refer their Rhinoplasty patients to Dr. Gross for his advice, opinions, and for revisions or difficult cases.

Commonly Asked Questions

How long does the Rhinoplasty take and what kind of anesthesia is used?

Dr. Gross performs Rhinoplasty in approximately two to three hours depending on the complexity and the condition of the nose. Rhinoplasty is done under general anesthesia at Primera Surgery Center as an outpatient surgery with at home recovery for one week.

How accurate is the Computer Imaging session?

Dr. Gross has over 15 years of experience with Computer Imaging and approximates his surgical outcomes very closely with those provided on the Imager.  Barring any unforeseen problems, most patients will be very satisfied with the final results Dr. Gross simulates on the Computer Imager. Dr. Gross will examine each patient individually and advise each patient  if their expectations are realistic, based on this comprehensive analysis. These images are emailed to the patient containing a standard Disclaimer.

Is there a lot of bruising afterwards and how long will the swelling last?

This depends again on how complex the procedure is, but in general most of our patients experience limited discoloration and swelling around the eyes, which is generally resolved within one week. This due to the extensive experience and skill of our surgeon. “Delicate care in surgery and handling the tissues gently is critical for rapid healing”, says Dr. Gross.

I have trouble breathing through my nose; will cosmetic Rhinoplasty help my breathing?

Yes. The condition described is usually associated with a deviated septum or a bent internal framework of the nose. “Most of the time this results from trauma such as a broken nose, but many of my patients cannot recall an episode where this might have occurred,” says Dr. Gross. Careful examination by a qualified Facial Plastic Surgeon is needed to determine the best course of treatment for each patient. Dr. Gross is double board certified which allows for his unique skills combining cosmetic as well as functional improvement during surgery. Although correction of a cosmetic deformity of the nose is not covered by insurance; Dr. Gross will correct breathing problems, as needed, at the time cosmetic Rhinoplasty is performed.  Keep in mind that Dr. Gross is one of only a very few doctors with dual board certification and training to handle both the cosmetic and breathing portions of your surgery.  Although we do not accept insurance;  Dr. Gross may advise you on the benefits of correcting your breathing problems during surgery .

Where are the incisions placed during nose surgery?

Dr. Gross places most of the incisions for Rhinoplasty hidden in the inside of the nostril. External incisions may be hidden in the creases where the nose meets the cheek to narrow the nose. An incision will also be hidden under the nasal tip for Open Rhinoplasty.

When will I see my final results from surgery?

It takes one year for all of the swelling to subside , especially at the tip. This may be longer for revision Rhinoplasty patients or previous trauma cases, which we frequently care for. However, most patients see immediate pleasing results when the cast is removed at the end of the first week. The typical patient returns to work or school at the end of one week with very little signs of nasal surgery.

Will the bump re-grow on my nose after surgery?

No. The bump will not re-grow on your nose; however, we recommend our patients follow strict guidelines to avoid contact sports for one month following surgery. This will avoid any unnecessary trauma or injuries.

Will I have packing inside my nose?
No. Dr. Gross performs cosmetic Rhinoplasty with minimal invasiveness. His advanced techniques allow for minimal trauma and bleeding in surgery resulting in less pain and swelling; therefore, no packing is required. “Our patients experience minimal discomfort and bruising during their recovery” says Dr. Gross. Arnica and Bromelain (SinEcch™)are prescribed to our patients to minimize bruising and swelling- a homeopathic remedy of great benefit in the healing process

Testimonials

Dear Dr. Gross,

As you know I was very hesitant; waiting almost 10 years since my last attempt at rhinoplasty, because of the intense pain and poor service from my prior Surgeon in Tennessee. When you originally told me the the pain would be “3 out of 10″, I was extremely skeptical. I am now a convert and would hope that anyone hesitant doing a revision or a new rhinoplasty because of the pain or poor service, seriously consider you as their Surgeon.

I also wanted to let you know that my experience with you and your support staff has been excellent and I was very happy to see that throughout the entire process that the quality service remained.

Lastly, I would like to tell you that I am convinced that you genuinely care about your patients and that’s a nice change.

Sincerely,
Clint

I just wanted to say thank you for everything you have done for me. I feel really blessed that I found the right place and the right people to work on my nose.

With Heartfelt Thanks,
Noelle

I visted four other surgeons before meeting Dr. Gross. His wonderful demeanor, as well as the professionalism of his staff, instantly put me at ease. I did not want to drastically change my appearance, rather I wanted to look like a “better version” of myself. I couldn’t be any happier with the results and would highly recommend Dr. Gross to anyone seeking facial plastic surgery.
