Dynamic vs. Static Wrinkles: What’s the Difference?

When you look in the mirror and see various lines and wrinkles creasing your once-youthful skin, you’re probably not thinking about the different ways they developed. You just want them gone. But getting the correct injectable anti-wrinkle treatment depends on the type of wrinkle you have—dynamic or static.

So, what is the difference between dynamic and static wrinkles?

Dynamic Wrinkles

Your face changes expressions countless times throughout the day—squinting into the bright sun, reacting when you’re surprised, showing concern, laughing, and displaying countless other emotions. Each time your expression changes your skin creases and then relaxes. Over time, these repeated movements etch lines around the eyes, mouth, forehead, and other areas of the face. You probably know these dynamic wrinkles as crow’s feet, worry lines, smile lines, and other names.

We use BOTOX® Cosmetic or Dysport® injections to minimize dynamic wrinkles. BOTOX and Dysport both work by temporarily immobilizing the muscles used to change expressions. When injected by an expert, the treatments reduce wrinkles without looking unnatural.

Static Wrinkles

The smooth, firm, wrinkle-free skin of your 20’s gradually gives way to lines and folds as collagen production slows down and exposure to the sun and other environmental pollutants takes its toll. Collagen and elastin are the building blocks of youthful skin.

We offer a range of dermal fillers to treat static wrinkles, including JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, and RADIESSE®, along with laser skin tightening procedures and microneedling.
