Many men and women struggle with the look of their chin. After all, a well-defined chin conveys strength and confidence. Sculpting a sharper jawline or adding volume to a naturally small chin with treatments such as Restylane® fillers or Ultherapy® skin tightening at our Orlando-area practice can help you feel better about your facial profile.
Several surgical and nonsurgical treatments exist, and the right method for you depends both on the issue you’re facing and the expert recommendations of an experienced doctor. In this blog post, we’ll review a few of the most effective approaches to chiseling an attractive chin.
What Is the Best Treatment for Reducing a Double Chin?
Nonsurgical
KYBELLA®: During this treatment, we inject the chin with a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a chemical produced naturally by the body to break down and eliminate dietary fat. Once exposed to this chemical, targeted fat cells gradually die and are metabolized out of the body. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 68,000 KYBELLA treatments were performed in 2019.
Treatments involve multiple injections that last for a total of about 30 minutes. They require some downtime and patients typically experience some swelling for several days after the procedure. Getting the desired results usually requires at least 2 treatment sessions.
Ultherapy: This treatment uses ultrasound technology to stimulate the body’s natural collagen production and tighten skin. The procedure is typically completed in about an hour and is non-invasive. Results will develop over a few months as the body starts producing collagen, and the effects may last for up to 3 years. You can see Ultherapy’s excellent results in my patients’ before-and-after photos. And, take a look at one of our related blog posts to learn more about the procedure.
Surgical
Neck liposuction: Most effective on patients under 40 who have good skin elasticity, this treatment suctions fat away from the area to create a more defined jawline.
Facelift: If jowls and sagging skin are hiding the jawline’s definition, a facelift can lift and reposition lower facial tissues to sharpen up the area.
What Can You Do for a Weak Chin?
Nonsurgical
Dermal fillers: Hyaluronic acid fillers like or Restylane or JUVÉDERM® can provide volume under the skin to improve the chin’s projection or height. This method is temporary since fillers last between 12 and 18 months before they naturally dissolve.
Surgical
Chin implant: Using an incision hidden under the chin, we can insert an implant designed to adjust the shape of the chin. We often recommend trying dermal fillers first to decide if you like the effect—then opting for one of several chin implant options to make it permanent. As with any surgery, this does come with a few risks and requires about a week for full recovery.
The best way to determine the right option for you is to book a consultation with a doctor and get personalized recommendations.
