Your face is your identity. It’s often the first thing people notice about you, and it likely plays a significant role in how you feel about yourself. Something so unique and personal deserves an equally personalized approach to rejuvenation.
As a double board-certified facial plastic surgeon, my approach to facelift surgery often includes complementary surgical and nonsurgical modalities to deliver the most tailored results possible. Below, you can see the difference that expertise and customized care make in our facelift before and after transformations.
Lower Face Rejuvenation and Neck Contouring
Following weight loss, this 51-year-old patient felt her face and neck looked heavier and older than she really was. She was particularly bothered by jowling and sagging skin. In addition to performing a combined face and neck lift, I also used liposuction to remove some of the fullness beneath her chin. The result is a slimmer neck, a more defined jawline, and a lighter, more youthful appearance.
Fat Grafting for Natural-Looking Volume
Our next patient is a woman in her mid-60s whose concerns included skin laxity, bags under the eyes, a downturned mouth, and a tired look. Her treatment plan included a facelift and neck lift to smooth the neck and tighten the skin on her lower face. I also performed a corner-of-mouth lift, removing the creases at the outer corners of her lips that created a frown when her face was at rest.
This patient also had a lower eyelid lift to treat the under-eye area and fat grafting to restore soft, natural, youthful-looking volume to her face. As you can see, she looks significantly younger but doesn’t look like she has had work done.
It’s All in the Eyes
Although a facelift traditionally only treats the lower two-thirds of the face (and oftentimes the neck), many patients can benefit from eyelid surgery to rejuvenate the upper face, too. This woman, who is in her early 50s, had upper and lower blepharoplasty to brighten her eyes and create a more open and alert appearance.
As with our previous patient, we used fat injections to replenish lost volume and addressed her lower face and neck as well. We love this transformation because it shows how subtle, strategic enhancements make a profound difference!
Slimming Meets Symmetry
Our next patient sought to address uneven eyebrows and a heavy appearance to her neck. She was a good candidate for a mini facelift targeting the lax skin around her jawline. I also performed a minimally invasive endoscopic brow lift to correct the asymmetry in her brows. This procedure had the added benefit of making her eyes appear brighter and more youthful.
The most profound difference, as you can see, is in our patient’s neck. I used deep plane and platysma muscle lifting (corset platysmaplasty) to slim and define the chin, jawline, and the entire length of her neck.
Not Just for Women
Men are increasingly embracing plastic surgery to look fitter and younger, and this patient is no exception! Our patient is a businessman in his early 60s seeking to rejuvenate his mid and lower face and neck. I performed a SMAS facelift and platysma muscle tightening to treat sagging in the neck, cheeks, and jowls.
Surgery for men has its own anatomical and aesthetic considerations requiring a specialist’s touch. Many patients—male and female alike—are often so inspired by their results that it helps them recommit to their health and aesthetic goals. In this patient’s case, he lost 50 pounds in the 6 months following his procedure!
A Youthful Touch-Up
Can you believe this patient is nearly 70? She had a facelift and upper eyelid surgery when she was 50 and wanted a touch-up after two decades of enjoying a rejuvenated appearance. While a facelift doesn’t stop the aging process, you can see how it helps maintain a more youthful appearance than if you hadn’t had the procedure at all.
Our patient refreshed her appearance with a brow lift, mini facelift, and neck lift. Her results are seamless and natural-looking, matching her vibrant demeanor.
A Brighter, Clearer Complexion
A facelift does wonders for rejuvenating a droopy face and neck and smoothing wrinkles on the lower face. However, it does not address the quality of the skin. To treat this patient’s sun-damaged skin and discoloration, I included laser skin resurfacing as part of her treatment plan. You can see how her skin tone is much more even, and her face has a more uplifted, youthful appearance.
Nonsurgical Enhancements
As with the preceding case, this patient enhanced her facelift with nonsurgical treatments. In addition to CO2 laser resurfacing, she had a phenol chemical peel to treat the fine lines around her mouth. I refreshed her appearance surgically with a SMAS muscle lift, corset platysmaplasty (neck lift), and an upper eyelid lift.
A Touch of Filler
With our next patient, we went for a full face rejuvenation with upper and lower eyelid surgery and a SMAS facelift. After years in the Florida sun, she was also an excellent candidate for laser resurfacing. To round out her treatment plan, I also added Restylane injections to plump her upper lip. With this tailored approach, you can see how smooth her neck is, how bright her eyes are, and how clear her complexion is.
A Multi-Modal Approach
Our patient sought to address puffiness under the eyes, sagging cheeks, and a loss of elasticity in her skin. Her custom treatment plan included a mini facelift, lower blepharoplasty, and IPL photorejuvenation. We also included microneedling to smooth her fine lines and wrinkles and stimulate collagen growth for long-term enhancement.
