Rhinoplasty remains one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures performed year after year. As a facial plastic surgeon specializing in rhinoplasty at my Orlando practice, I perform an average of 120 cosmetic nose surgeries each year. Other general plastic surgeons average about 12 rhinoplasties annually.
When searching for an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon, it’s important to ask specific questions to ensure your doctor gets consistently excellent results. To find a facial plastic surgery specialist with extensive rhinoplasty experience, I suggest asking the following 3 questions:
- How many rhinoplasty surgeries have you performed? A plastic surgeon with many years of experience may rarely perform rhinoplasties for one reason or another. This simple question can be very revealing.
- What specific techniques do you use? The 2 primary types of rhinoplasty are open and closed. Ask which the surgeon prefers in which cases and what the benefits are in your specific case. Also ask what techniques he or she uses for revision rhinoplasty.
- Can you show me before-and-after pictures of your results? You should be given access to an extensive catalog of before-and-after photos showing rhinoplasty results. Ideally, you should view patients whose concerns about their noses were similar to yours. For example, if you want to reduce the appearance of a hump on the bridge of the nose, ask to see photos of other patients who had the same procedure done.
If you’re satisfied with the responses to these questions, and you feel comfortable in general with the surgeon and his or her credentials, it’s likely you’re on the right track in search of a surgeon.
