These days, it seems a new non-surgical treatment comes out every month or so that helps people reverse the signs of facial aging. Although many of these injectables, laser and energy treatments, and other services can be wonderful options for certain patients at my Orlando practice, there’s still nothing as effective as facelift surgery. It’s called the “gold standard” of facial rejuvenation for a reason — in fact, many reasons.
Here are the top 3 reasons the facelift still reigns:
1. Long-lasting results: Many non-surgical treatments can provide nice anti-aging results with little downtime, but patients inevitably have to return for follow-up treatments to maintain these effects. A facelift goes beyond the superficial skin layers and addresses the underlying substructures of the face, including muscle and fascia. Tightening these subdermal layers can give a patient results lasting around 10 years or more.
2. More extensive results: Because a facelift addresses the deeper structures of the face, I am able to dramatically improve the appearance of the cheeks, jawline, and neck. I can also remove excess skin along the lower portion of the face and neck, which often forms jowls, wattles, or bags, to tighten and define the jawline. This level of improvement is simply not possible with non-surgical treatments.
3. High patient satisfaction: Patients consistently love the results of facelift surgery, which is why the procedure is still so common despite competition from non-surgical treatments. A peer-reviewed survey of facelift patients recently published in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery® reported a high level of patient satisfaction and that the patients felt they appeared an average of 6.9 years younger than their actual age. My own patients are thrilled the results of their facelifts and are often eager to provide testimonials, which you can read for yourself on my patient testimonials page.
Of course, all this is not to discount the value of non-surgical treatments, which can provide truly impressive results for certain patients, with the added bonus of less cost and downtime. Either approach, surgical or non-surgical, can make a big difference. Success is all about finding the right treatment for you.
