As we age, our faces lose their plump, youthful look, and the soft tissues descend and become thinner. Science has identified the major causes of facial aging as fat loss and fat atrophy. Science has also come up with a solution: fat grafting.
Aging involves 3 distinct components: sags and bags, wrinkles and lines, and volume loss. Facelift and neck lift surgery address the sags and bags, lasers and BOTOX® Cosmetic correct the surface wrinkling, and fillers and fat grafting correct the volume loss. The key is to recognize and treat volume loss to give the face a younger, more balanced look. Dr. Edward J. Gross commonly performs fat grafting procedures for his Orlando plastic surgery and skin care patients.

From A Patient's Perspective
Read and hear real people discuss their unique experiences and get a perspective that is sometimes missing from shorter reviews. These stories feature some of our actual patients describing their personal journeys and what makes Primera Plastic Surgery such a special place.
The concept of fat grafting was developed in the 1970s, but early attempts lacked understanding and the proper technology, and they were not successful. In the 1990s, fat grafting went through a renaissance. Dr. Sydney Coleman showed excellent results using micro-cannulas, centrifuging (spinning) the fat, using tumescent solution, and handling the cells delicately. Today, we base our work on these principles, achieving great success and better outcomes than ever before.
Computer Imaging
See Your Results Before Surgery
Our practice is among the few that use computer imaging to show potential results. With the help of this technology, Dr. Gross can reliably tailor a surgical treatment plan for the unique needs of each patient.
Fat is usually harvested from a patient’s abdominal area or outer thighs. It is then processed, rinsed, centrifuged, and placed into small syringes for injection into the face with micro-cannulas. The most common areas for replenishing volume are the cheeks, temples, nasal folds (parentheses around the mouth), lips, jawline, and lateral chin. At Primera, Dr. Gross performs fat grafting at the time of facial surgery for enhanced overall results. It has become an essential part of the plan for most surgical candidates.

Fat is a natural product that builds up the deep foundation of the face. Many patients require dermal fillers such as JUVÉDERM® following successful fat grafting, but to a lesser extent than those who do not have fat grafts. Dr. Gross will analyze your face using a computer imager to show you your possible fat grafting results before the procedure. The best candidates for this procedure must have a BMI below 30.
Fat grafting patients generally feel little to no pain, but you will likely experience some swelling for the first week. Results can last 3 years or more, and treatments can be repeated to maintain results.
